Te Ara Whānau, the Family Solutions model is Family Works Central’s unique way of working with families and whānau facing significant and complex challenges.Te Ara Whānau is different because it engages the whole whānau and provides a wide range of services and support which are tailored to both individual needs and that of the family unit.
Family Works Central staff delivering Te Ara Whānau are not only qualified and professional, but also respectful and non-judgemental. Each staff member has successfully completed the Family Works Cultural Competency programme, launched at Rātana Pā in May 2017.
Using Te Ara Whānau, the Family Solutions model, the Family Works Central team work with the family and whanau to work out what help and support is needed, and to build on existing strengths and resources. Support is usually intensive at first, reducing over time to match the needs of the whānau.
Family Works Central embraces the Te Ara Whānau, Family Solutions model when families are facing significant and complex challenges, such as family violence, poverty, neglect, trauma, criminal offending and substance abuse.
Services are flexible and tailored to the needs of the individuals and whānau unit. That means a family has access to whatever services and support is right for them. This may include family violence safety programmes, social work, advocacy, counselling, mediation, mentoring, parenting support and education or a range of other services.
